Religious Liberty

We are very blest in Australia to enjoy religious liberty. Religious liberty is granted in our Constitution to all Australian citizens. The Australian Constitution states that, “The Commonwealth shall not make any law … for prohibiting the free exercise of any religion (section 116)”. In other words, the free exercise of our Catholic Faith is protected in our Constitution. Notice that the Constitution speaks of free exercise of religious faith. Thus not only can we assent to what has been divinely revealed in Christ, we can also freely exercise those beliefs. With the submissions for the government review of religious liberty in Australia coming to a close, we look forward to this freedom being robustly upheld. Fr Nicolas Maurice
