This week we celebrate the feast of St John Chrysostom. He was the illustrious Archbishop of Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) who became known as ‘golden-mouth’ because of his eloquence in preaching. He writes: “Even if we have thousands of acts of great virtue to our credit, our confidence in being heard must be based on God’s mercy and His love for men.” His words remind us that faith in God is essential, that trust in Christ our Saviour is the basis of our hope.
